Elena
Tejada-Herrera is a multimedia artist. She was born in Peru
and moved to the United States in 2001. Elena lets the context of
each particular situation dictate the forms that her art takes.
She has worked for several years investigating issues of gender,
cultural identities, as well as social and cultural mobility and
displacement. She often uses her body, creates installations, realizes
conversations, or intervenes different contexts to generate affective
communicational situations. Also visit: www.youtube.com/videodestamujer
Let Me Be Your Translator
I invited people from my country Peru to write letters and
to submit poems or other texts for the
IEG participants. I translate their texts from Spanish to English
and invite people attending the event to respond to these letters
and texts. I then translate these responses from English to Spanish
and post them on a blog. All the letters and texts will be displayed
in both Spanish and English. The blog will also display the corresponding
names of people that wrote the letters and the different texts.
