Barbara
Meneley's first forays into professional art were at the age of
nine with her first, and so far only novel, The Haunted House on
Ninth Street, which she pedaled door-to-door in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Although not lucrative, this experience introduced many aspects
of life and living in the arts, including the importance of determination
and an ability to handle rejection, and that it never hurts to be
really good at selling something. Barbara studied Visual Arts at
Emily Carr Institute, and Communications and Dance at Simon Fraser
University. She is currently completing her MFA in Intermedia at
the University of Regina.

In This Place
As we move through the our lives in the urban environment we engage
in countless interactions with strangers: a driver stops to let
a pedestrian cross the street, someone stands back to let a person
pass through a doorway, people exchange smiles as they pass one
another in a park. In This Place encourages people to mark these
interactions in their daily lives. Participants will be offered
packets containing colourful tags which they are encouraged to attach
to doors, bus seats, park benches or
anywhere they find human interaction takes place. To facilitate
full enjoyment, each packet will contain a selection of tags together
with instructions and suggestions for use. In exchange, participants
are requested to mark these interactions with the tags, photograph
these markings, and email images to: in.this.place at live dot com
In a global context of wars and conflict, and ever increasing domestic
debates on security, In This Place is an ongoing reminder
of the humanity we continuously foster in our daily lives.
